Principle one: Manufacturing complexity is free. In traditional manufacturing, the more complicated an object’s shape, the more it costs to make. On a 3D printer, complexity costs the same as simplicity. Fabricating an ornate and complicated shape does not require more time, skill, or cost than printing a simple block. Free complexity will disrupt traditional pricing models and change how we calculate the cost of manufacturing things. March 04, 2013 at 05:52AM
Producers will now increasingly create content that includes us in the event and the storyline. Architects of social and hardware platforms will need to rethink how TVs and the internet converge to foster consumption and engagement. And, those brands who subsidize content production, will have to transcend the practice of following attention to captivating it through innovation and experimentation. January 02, 2013 at 12:44PM
Until recently, mobile ads were generally really bad. On one side, tiny and unreadable banners; on the other, invasive and obnoxious interrupts. But that is starting to change thanks to responsive design, which publishers have been moving to in droves in the second half of 2012 (including Mashable). Not only does responsive design optimize content for the screen you’re on, but it also optimizes advertising to serve the ideal sized unit. On a smartphone, that might mean a 300x250 ad. On a tablet or desktop, it’s likely a 970x90. And on an inbetween device like a 7” tablet or a plus-sized smartphone like the Galaxy Note, a 160x600. December 25, 2012 at 06:40PM
Turns out in fact, that Circles works best – guess where – on an Android handset. Organizing your contacts in Android 4+ using Circles is really nice, and the integration of everyone’s profile pics works really well. It’s the kind of thing that Facebook – if it had its own mobile OS – would probably be great at too, but without that level of OS integration, Google+Android (hey, that’s catchy…) is much more polished and useful.
